A Civil Society Organisation working in collaboration with the. United Nations Organisation on full realization of the. Sustainable Development Goals, SDGs has urged the Federal government under President. Bola Ahmed. Tinubu to as a matter of urgency address the rising cost of living in the country.
Inflation rate in the country has been on the upward increase since the removal of oil subsidy by the present regime of Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
Recall that Mr. President announced the removal of oil subsidy during his inaugural speech on . May 29th, 2023.
The organisation, Civil Society Organization on Community Advancement and Humanitarian. Empowerment Initiative, CSCHEI which is an umbrella body that serves as a link between the government and the masses in the country and a full fledged accredited platform with the UN made this appeal known recently in a media chat in Abuja while reeling out update on its various achievements recorded so far in measuring the percentage ratio in meeting with me targets of the SDGs.
This passionate plea was contained in the keynote address of the Director General of the organisation, Kunle Yusuf during the media briefing which attracted many non governmental agencies, Faith based organisations as well as community based organisations that are geared towards the social development of the country.
He reiterated the need for the federal government to quickly come to terms with the current economic realities on ground in the country as he noted that Nigerians are seriously facing hardship and challenge of livelihood occasioned by the hard but necessary economic policies of government.
Mr Yusuf, who was very constructively blunt in his advice also drew the attention of Mr. President in reviewing the current relationship between the CSOs, NGOs, FBO s, CBOs as well as the Presidential food security committee .
Other policies of the government which the DG also wants the government to equally look into were in the high electricity tariff, the astronomical increase in public education as well as the incessant rampage of insecurity in the country.
All these candid views of the director general of the organisation was according to him reposition the country for greater heights, pointing out that the present predicament demand a holistic re-engineering of the government policies and problems at hand.
He also enjoined other NGOs and Civil society organisations to dove -tail the efforts of the government at all cadres to fight crime and other forms of insecurity in the country.
