Gender Sensitive Organization Campaigns For Women Inclusivity In Country's Affairs By Kingsley ihearindueme
The event which was held at the International Conference Centre, ICC, Abuja by the Mandela Washington Fellowship Alumni of Nigeria brought together experts to talk about civic engagement, public management and business leadership with particular emphasis on how to include the women folks into the scheme of things in the country.
Speaking to some pressmen after the event, the Welfare Secretary who is also the Chairman of the Planning Committee of the women day event by the Mandela Washington Fellowship Alumni of Nigeria, Susan Ogunleye, the highlight of the event was to celebrate Nigerian women who are doing amazing things at their different spheres of life.
She noted that such an awesome and exemplary women were recognized and honoured by the organization as a way of extolling their virtues and as well encourage others.
The theme of the event, "Count Her In, Inspiring Inclusion and Empowerment", offered experts opportunity to mentor different categories of women on various kinds of skills as to become experts and leaders in their own work fields.
As a way of boosting the moral of the women folks in the country, the charming and adorable Welfare Secretary of the organization, Susan Ogunleye enjoined women in the country to remain resilient and committed in empowering their fellow women. She believes in doing so, they will not only conquer but also rule their world.
She went further to highlight certain criteria for selection of participants as well as those eligible for being honoured. According to her, the age range for women who are due to partake in the event is between the age of 25-40 years and those enlisted for award are picked from forms distributed to members.
For Chineye Esther Agu, a chef who works under the platform of Crave Boutik, specialist in all kinds of dry foods products such as cakes and chicken pie etc, she said being invited to participate in the event however enabled her to showcase her made-in-Nigeria products, which she said was self fulfilling.
Narrating her experience and take home message from the event, she said that she was overwhelmed with love first and foremost for oneself as a woman and again for one to impact her immediate home and then the world at large.
Going into memory lane, she said that she has empowered over 750 women on free mentorship, adding that all through these years, she has not been working in any collaboration with any government agency but hopes to do so if such opportunity crops up
anytime in the future.
At the end of the day, participants were however treated to a lavish dry food eateries and drinks of all kinds. It was indeed a gathering worth the while that called for robust brainstorming and discussions for a better place for women as well as mentorship and exposure to different kinds of craftsmanship.
